The prison of Oudenarde was built in 1919. After WW I, the entrance building, the porter’s lodge, the service hallway and the service building were rebuilt in the original style. The prison is one of the last prisons built according to the Ducpétiaux model. Until 1933 the institution served as remand prison for accused persons in pre-trial detention, after which it was closed in order to economize.
