Prison Industries Exhibition in Lisbon – Call for submitting Products
The Portuguese General Directorate of Rehabilitation and Prison Services (DGRSP), together with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice, promote each year around Christmas season an exhibition with the portfolio of prison industries production, in the Portuguese Ministry of Justice in the very heart of Lisbon downtown. For this year’s exhibition they would like to invite European Prison Services to participate at the exhibition with their products.
The exhibition aims to demonstrate and disseminate the full potential of labour in Prison Industries to external entities and to stimulate them to collaborate professionally with our workshops. Another aim is to promote and market the variety of products and to bringing them closer to the general public. And also, to reinforce inmate’s motivation for work.
Visitors to the exhibition will not only be able to see, but also to purchase wine, olive oil, honey, nuts, fruit and vegetables, bread and biscuits, a multitude of wood and iron articles, furniture, typography and bookbinding articles, upholstery, tapestry, tailoring, soap works, wickerwork and forestry goods.
At the exhibition successful partnerships with external entities are presented to promote the Prison Industries potential. Examples of this are the assembly and repair of espresso coffee machines for commercial use and the production of parts of a surf board.
In 2014 a historical note was added to the exhibition by showcasing goods, photos and documents from our historical collection related with labour activity since the early 1900’s to highlight the development of prison work, the continuity of performance and responsibility concerning penitentiary treatment.
In 2015 we are keen to continue this long tradition and we would like to add an extra flavour to the exhibition. We would find it very interesting to display products from prison industries of different European countries.
Therefore we would like to invite our colleagues to send us around three products that are produced in your institutions. Preferably something that is representative of your efforts and work in prisons. It should not be too valuable and something easy to store and transport.
