In the last months of the implementation period of R2PRIS – radicalisation in prisons, the project is now reaching its final phase. Main products will be a radicalisation screening tool and a training programme. The screening tool is a three dimensional risk assessment focusing on environmental, social and individual factors. The training programme will increase awareness among prison staff as well as abilities to manage tendencies of radicalisation.
Regarding the developed tools, the final version of the “The Radicalisation Risk Assessment in Prisons” is an assessment process that encompasses three instruments: (1) the helicopter view; (2) the behavioural checklist; and (3) the radicalisation screening technical assessment. Based on a structured professional judgment approach, this battery of assessment tools provides a unique way of assessing the general inmates’ vulnerability as well as the environmental risks existing in prisons. Following this approach, the prison service will gather information about the radicalisation risk from various sources at multiple levels (individual, inter-individual and organisational).
In what concerns the “R2PRIS training programme”, its three different components (e-learning, classroom-based and train and trainer) are currently being piloted by the prison services represented in the partnership. The e-learning course is structured as follows:
Module I –Radicalisation in Prisons: Awareness
Module II – Radicalisation in Prisons Assessment: Tools and Procedures
Module III – Radicalisation in Prisons: Programmes and Intervention Strategies
