ICT Expert Group Report (2020)

This year, the experts met several times online due to the restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic. During these meetings, the main focus was to prepare for the main event, the ICT Workshop, which took place on 29-30 September 2020. The ICT Workshop was a successful event, where 97 participants attended during the first day, and 85 during the second day. The Workshop was broken down into plenary presentations and breakout sessions. There were many varied and interesting topics discussed including intelligent prisons, artificial intelligence, the impact of Covid-19 and the use of technology to assist prisons during the pandemic, video linking, data-driven decision making, digital services for inmates, augmented reality, technological developments in the Education of prisoners, integration of smart technologies in prisons and many more.

An additional topic on the agenda was the redesign of the ICT Matrix that was initially prepared in 2018 by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. The redesign has been executed by the ICT group coordinator, George Jackson, with the input from the group.

The group composition changed, whereas Alexandre Huyghues-Beaufond (France) and Pia Puolakka (Finland) joined the group, and Riku Pammo (Finland) and Roman Safranek (Czech Republic) left the group.
