Roberto Tartaglia is from Italy and is currently the Deputy Head of the Italian Prison Department, since April 2020.
He graduated in Law and has a PhD in “Internationalization of criminal policy and criminal systems”.
He started his professional experience as a penal lawyer, while collaborating with some Faculties of Law, still in the penal field.
In 2009, he joined the Italian judiciary, where he has been working as a public prosecutor until 2019. In that capacity, he dealt with investigations into crimes against the Public Administration and into organized crime.
In 2019 Roberto Tartaglia was appointed consultant to the Parliamentary Anti-Mafia Commission.
Currently, as Deputy Head of the Italian Department of Penitentiary Administration, he is delegated many functions, including coordination of provisions issued both at central and local level, management of prisoners’ health (with particular reference to the prevention of suicides and to the mental disorders of the prison population), management of the most dangerous prisoners (those belonging to dangerous criminal organizations and those charged with crimes of international terrorism), supervision of prison buildings policy, prevention of corruption within the Administration and international activities.
