Introduction: The Belgian Prison Service is planning to build several new prisons in the next few years. The development of the correctional vision behind the new infrastructure as well as the definition of the functional and technical needs is already under way for some of them. As technology keeps evolving, some questions arise regarding automatic and self-managing systems and this in relation to safety and security procedures.
