The specialised Correctional Facility for Juveniles in Martin (todays Juveniles´ Prison Sučany) was officially founded on 1 January 1976 and all juveniles with permanent residence in Slovakia were placed into the new-built premises. The construction of the second stage began in 1976 and it was put into use in 1978. The new training centre (school, workshops, gym) was opened. The prison was 500 persons. From the beginning, the intention was to place here not only juveniles but also adult prisoners of the age close to the age of juveniles, for serving the prison sentence in the first correctional group with the term of the prison sentence up to 5 years. The adult prisoners were accommodated separately from juveniles. The consisted of the prison officers from the Prison Košice, Želiezovce, Banská Bystrica and former facility Sučany, that had existed in the premises of the psychiatric facility Sučany already since 1972. After opening of the new prison, it became its branch until 31 December 1985. The Collection Escort Centre for groupage and deployment of inmates into prisons in Slovakia was established in the prison in August 1996 that had been seated in prison Žilina until that time. Since March 2015, sentenced women have been placed here due to the total development of in prison.
