Due to the current situation with Covid-19 and the travel restrictions that many jurisdictions are facing, it was decided to hold European Prison Regime Forum Workshop fully online. The half-day morning session is planned to take place on the 13 April 2021 via online Zoom platform.
The role of sports in reintegration and improved employability
In its 2019 status report on prison health in the WHO European Region, the WHO stressed that prisons need to be health-enabling environments that can contribute to an improvement in health and well-being. It recommends that time spent in custody should be used to improve existing health conditions through appropriate treatments and modify health-risk behaviour for noncommunicable diseases through, for example, physical activity. Next to these important health aspects, sport can also have a considerable value for prisoners in increasing their chance for a successful reintegration back into society and for better chances for employment after release.
In the half-day online workshop of the European Prison Regime Forum on 13 April (10-13am CET) the value of sports will be a central topic and some good practices will be presented on how sport initiatives and contacts with sport clubs have brought positive results for (ex) prisoners.
Presentations will be given amongst others on:
