Technology has changed almost all aspects of our modern lives and there is a real need to anticipate this new reality into how prison and probation services do their work and help individuals return successfully into a digital society. This context brings the terms digital and rehabilitation closer together, impels us to confront them with each other.
A particular challenge facing corrections is the emphasis on professionalization and efficiency with more individualized and person-centric approaches towards users of corrections, and a strong focus on preparing re-entry into a society that has become increasingly digital. While technology can support achieving outcomes, it needs to be realised in a context where operational security and public safety are to be guaranteed and the right balance and responses to emerging realities in society such as radicalisation, organised crime, and cybercrime have to be found. Achieving all of this within the restraints of a difficult budgetary context constitutes a complex challenge.
The European Organisation of Prison and Correctional Services (EuroPris) in cooperation with the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA) is organising the fifth Technology in Corrections Conference (TIC): ‘Digital Rehabilitation’, which will be hosted by the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses in Türkiye, 21 -24 April 2024.
The purpose of this conference is to:
Sunday, 21 April: Evening Welcome Reception
Monday, 22 April: Conference Day One
Tuesday, 23 April: Conference Day Two
Wednesday, 24 April: Prison Visits (Optional)
