Technology is rapidly changing and expanding in every field imaginable, in every aspect of our life, transforming it. We live in an information age where the digital revolution has created a knowledge base society surrounded by a high tech economy which has allowed rapid global communications and networking to shape modern society.
Technology in Prisons has also seen rapid development in the last years, having things unimagined a few years ago: internet access to prisoners, e-health and e-learning for prisoners, use of mobile devices in prison, iPads for officers, biometrics, video-conferencing, cloud services and much more.

EuroPris, in cooperation with ICPA and CEP organised the second Technology in Corrections: Challenges for the Future on 15-17th May 2017 in Prague, Czech Republic.

The TIC Conference is an international event where experts from a wide range of backgrounds and sectors in the creation, development and the implementation of correctional technology solutions attend. This includes senior decision makers, Directors General of correctional jurisdictions, CIOs, heads of ICT departments, business improvement professionals, prison and probation management experts, analytical and research specialists and technology solution providers. TIC seeks to attract a core audience of those presently working within the prison and probation sectors who are involved in the advancement of their respective jurisdictions through the implementation of digital technology initiatives.
This year Sweden hosted the EuroPris ICT in Prison Workshop on 22-25 May 2018. International experts on ICT were invited to exchange knowledge and discuss managing data flows, use of videoconferencing, development of ICT strategies, (wireless) connectivity in prisons, challenges in the implementation of the GDPR and much more. Issues on ICT within Education, but also a holistic scope on the needs of ICT within the Real Estate were highlighted. The program included live demos of modern technology used in prisons. Additionally, a tour was also organised in the newly renovated Kronoberg remand prison located in Stockholm.

The third EuroPris ICT in Prison Workshop took place on 29-30 June 2016 in Sintra, Portugal, hosted by the Portuguese Directorate General of Reintegration and Prison Service. In cooperation with the Irish Prison Service and Northern Ireland Prison Service, the second EuroPris ICT in Prisons Workshop took place on 3rd and 4th April 2014 in Portlaoise, Ireland and focused on experts working in the ICT sector of prison and correctional services.

EuroPris hosted a workshop in London on 24 – 25 April 2013 to bring together learning and expertise in the field of ICT in prisons.
Breakout groups during the workshop discussed 4 main topics:
As a result of this meeting a number of experts visited their colleagues in other European countries to further their exchange of knowledge, information and practices. Since this topic is relevant across all National Prison Agencies, it was agreed that the expert group would further expand on these important topics through organised workshop activities. The first ICT workshop was held on 24th – 25th April 2013 and attended by 40 ICT experts from across Europe.
