This year the Annual Conference of the European Penitentiary Training Network (EPTA) took place in Switzerland, from 19th to 22th September 2017. The meeting, organized by the Swiss Prison Staff Training Centre, gathered 48 participants and representatives from 20 European Penitentiary Academies.
The topic of the meeting was Leadership Training and Training of prison and probation managers. Several participants presented innovative training methodologies. The discussion about opportunities and challenges faced by the Academies revealed an important common denominator. In a comparative approach the participants looked at how they teach crisis management.
The Ukrainian Penitentiary Academy, which took part in the meeting last year, was welcomed by the EPTA members as new member of the network. Representatives of the Penitentiary Academy of Estonia, Finland and Turkey participated in this year’s meeting as observers, presenting their offer to the network.
The date and the topic of next year’s Annual Conference of the growing network aren’t defined yet, but it will be hosted by the French National Correctional Administration Academy, which will take over the Presidency of EPTA’s steering committee next year.
