Notes and Comments | Služba väzenskej a justičnej stráže bola zriadená podľa zákona č. 4/2001 Z. z. o službe väzenskej a justičnej stráže (ďalej len „Služba“) a je charakterizovaná ako ozbrojené bezpečnostné zložky, ktoré plnia úlohy súvisiace s výkonom väzby, výkonom trestu odňatia slobody, majetkovým zabezpečením objektov zariadenia a jeho okolia a ochranou verejného poriadku a bezpečnosti v priestory súdu, budovy prokuratúry a jej okolie. Službu tvoria generálne riaditeľstvo, ústavy na výkon väzby, nápravnovýchovné zariadenia, zariadenia pre mladistvých a nemocnica pre obvinených a odsúdených (ďalej len „zariadenie“. Generálne riaditeľstvo a zariadenia ako rozpočtové organizácie zriaďuje a zrušuje Ministerstvo spravodlivosti Slovenskej republiky Generálne riaditeľstvo riadi a kontroluje zariadenia Služba je podriadená ministrovi spravodlivosti (ďalej len „minister“) Na čele Služby je generálny riaditeľ, ktorý je menovaný a odvolaný z funkcie ministrom Generálny riaditeľ zodpovedá za svoju činnosť ministrovi Na čele zariadenia je manažér, ktorého vymenúva a odvoláva z funkcie generálny riaditeľ Za svoju činnosť zodpovedá riaditeľ zariadenia činnosti generálnemu riaditeľovi.
