1st International Symposium on Correctional Research: Enhancing Comparability and Understanding
Upcoming Event: A Unique Focus on Correctional Research
In collaboration with EuroPris, ICPA and the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, we plan to co-organise the “1st International Symposium on Correctional Research: Enhancing Comparability and Understanding”, location and date to be confirmed.
This event has the purpose of inviting research managers from correctional agencies worldwide, including both prisons and community services, as well as select academics and researchers with a broad interest in criminal justice and corrections issues, especially as it pertains to the measurement of performance, quality of services and outcomes in the delivery of correctional services.
Statistics and the information gleaned from research exercises are essential for us to make sense of what’s happening within our dynamic environments, to assess whether the decisions we take as corrections professionals work in practice, and to gain knowledge that helps us to make informed choices in future. This unique event with its focus on correctional research presents the opportunity to:
Begin strengthening the global correctional research network to share their experiences and practices in the conduct of applied correctional research;
Raise awareness of operational and applied research projects being undertaken globally;
Look for ways to encourage greater cross-jurisdictional comparative research, especially in terms of measuring performance and/or correctional outcomes;
Begin identifying some potential solutions which can promote the development of shared data definitions and statistical comparisons cross-jurisdictionally.
More information will follow soon. In the interim we welcome any expressions of interest for participation and involvement.
