Introduction: The Hungarian Prison Service pays close attention to the practices followed by its peers and partners, with special regards to the solutions employed in order to ensure the internal order and security of prisons and other institutions, and the related technological developments and tools. Such developments are particularly important in this regard since they may lead to a substantive change in the operation of a system. There are no specific regulations on the use of electrical weapons

Yes, we use a restraint kit that we attach down to the leg's above the foot. The maximum lentgth is 390 mm. The material is made of metal. The link cannot stretch. The restraint kit is very simular to our handcuffs.

In prisons and custodies, where appropriate, and in case of high risk of harm of the head of unit, leg cuffs - leg chain type are used through which is restricted the speed of the movement of inmates or prisoners detained in custody. The model of leg cuffs is H-THOMPSON, produced in USA with a length of the chain 40 см.

External posts are ensured with firearms, but there are not used and there are not requirements for the use of special holsters.

In which situations is it lawful to use these?The prisons and custodies are equipped with electrical weapons used only in special occasions: in case of rage, disobedience, escort of inmates with long sentences of harm and in other cases on the head of unit’s orders or chief jailer. At present the places of deprivation of liberty are equipped with electric transmission device brand „Taser“ /TASER X2/, as the instructions for its use are strictly observed.

The only leg restraint is used by the home office whilst returning people back to country of origin. It is not used by HMPPS.

In which situations is it lawful to use these?No prison staff (including NTRG) are currently authorised to use TASER or any other less lethal weapons but this position is being reviewed. We have a working arrangement with Armed Police that would enable them to operate in our environment in exceptional circumstances.
