The Prison Achievement Award 2026 edition attracted a strong and diverse set of applications, showcasing innovative and impactful initiatives from local prisons across Europe. Following a thorough review process, a Selection Board, composed of EuroPris Board members and independent experts, identified the top five shortlisted candidates.
The selected candidates represented Greece, Portugal, France, Kosovo, and Spain, each demonstrating excellence in areas such as healthcare access, reintegration, sustainability, education, and social inclusion. These five prisons were invited to present their initiatives through dedicated videos, which were showcased during the 15th EuroPris Annual General Meeting on 2 June 2026 in Valletta, Malta.
During the AGM, Director Generals from all EuroPris member administrations voted on the final outcome, ranking the initiatives based on their impact, innovation, sustainability, and relevance.
And the winners of the 2026 Prison Achievement Award were:
Les Baumettes Prison (France) with “Les Beaux Mets – A Culinary Pathway to Rehabilitation”.
A special mention also to the Prison Achievement Award trophy, which was prison-made by the Dutch Custodial Institutions Agency (Dienst Justitiële Inrichtingen), with craftsmanship from Penitentiaire Inrichting Alphen aan den Rijn and Zwolle. A meaningful symbol of the skills, talent, and potential within our systems.
