Please join UNICEF for the first webinar in the Global Series entitled “Access to Justice in the era of COVID-19: Experiences and Lessons from the Field”.
Date/time: 4 February 2021, 8:00am – 9:30am EST (UTC -5)
In this webinar, UNICEF will officially launch and present the findings of the upcoming publications: ‘Field Notes: A Rapid Analysis of Access to Justice for Children and COVID-19’ and ‘Access to Justice for Children in the era of COVID-19: Learnings from the Field’.
You will also hear from UNICEF colleagues on justice findings from UNICEF’s Socioeconomic Impact Survey of COVID-19 Response, and the new case study from the UNICEF Europe and Central Asia Region: Making best use of the ‘Technical Note: COVID-19 and Children Deprived of their Liberty’. These presentations will be followed by a moderated Q&A Session.
Background: The COVID-19 pandemic swept the world into unchartered territory, lifting the veil of how weak rule of law systems are across the world. These systems are meant to protect children’s rights against unfettered power in a society, but what happens to children’s access to justice when the system is overwhelmed, paused or closed down due to emergency public health reasons. UNICEF commissioned a rapid analysis of interventions and approaches implemented by UNICEF and partners between March and June 2020 focused on the release of children from detention and the continuation of child justice services. UNICEF is pleased to present a series of webinars to launch the publication and to hear how UNICEF and its partners quickly shifted their programming to meet the challenges of the pandemic and its unique impacts on children in the justice system.
The webinar will be recorded and made available for those unable to join due.
