From the 16th to the 20th April 2018 the third short-term staff training of the Radicalisation Prevention in Prisons (R2PRIS) project was held in Brussels. The R2Pris project addresses the prevention of radicalisation in prisons through the further development and enforcement of the competences of prison staff. Several instruments and training programs have been developed. They are now been piloted through the partners in prisons in Norway, Romania, Turkey and Belgium.
During the first Short-term Staff training in Lisbon, different members of the prison staff of the partners followed a training about radicalisation. The e-learning courses and instruments to assess the different risks of radicalisation in prisons were also presented, discussed and further developed. Each partner will pilot the e-learning courses and instruments for different groups of prison staff from January 2018 to the end of April 2018. During the second international training event in Bucharest and the third in Brussels the first experiences how to work with those instruments and e-learning courses were exchanged. Several changes have been made. During the third event in Brussels special attention was put to how to introduce the different instruments to the prison management, front line staff and technical staff. Guidelines for the facilitators of those instruments were introduced and further explored. At the end of the third but also final Short-term Staff training, the practitioners concluded that the instruments have become more specific and practical to work with in the prisons thanks to the feedback of the participants. The training programs and instruments have thus been further developed and refined. There is still some work to do but the project has come a long way!
