Over 70 participants from 22 countries joined the EuroPris Workshop on Prison Education, Vocational Training and Work in Ljubljana, hosted by the Prison Administration of the Republic of Slovenia and organised in partnership with EPEA. The workshop focused on developments in prison education, vocational training, prison work, and reintegration, while providing opportunities to exchange practices, discuss common challenges, and showcase innovative products and programmes through a Prison Work Exhibition.
Themes
Enhancing Prison Education
- How can prison education be integrated into national qualifications and lifelong learning systems?
- What innovative approaches are emerging for digital and blended learning in prisons?
Modern Vocational Training
- Which vocational skills are most relevant for today’s and tomorrow’s labour markets?
- How can prison services partner with external organisations to ensure training leads to real employment opportunities?
Work Opportunities and Reintegration
- How can prison work programs balance security, productivity, and rehabilitation goals?
- How are prison work programs currently structured (e.g., schedules, types of work offered, and participation rates)?
- What percentage of prisoners have access to meaningful work opportunities, and how can this be increased?
- What models exist for linking prison work experience to post-release employment pathways?
The workshop welcomes professionals from European prison services involved in education, vocational training, work programmes, and reintegration—for example Education Coordinators, Vocational Training Managers, and Policy Advisors. A select number of spaces will also be offered to NGOs working in this area to help broaden the exchange of experience and foster collaboration.
