Research shows the relationship with our line manager is the top determinant of workplace wellbeing, so as part of normal business, it’s really important that line managers are having regular wellbeing conversations with their team members. Wellbeing conversations are important for supporting staff by actively listening and acknowledging their needs, without offering solutions or advice, and should be held regularly, at least once a year, to foster open communication.
We promote our conversation toolkit for line managers which helps in having an action focused conversation. and provides guidance on what a good wellbeing conversation looks like. We also embed wellbeing into our performance management framework with 8 weekly touch point meetings taking place.
Therapeutic interventions employees should, where necessary, be signposted to access appropriate support from trained professionals.
Judgemental or performance related wellbeing conversations should not be used for performance management.
A formal mental health assessment if colleagues needs a formal mental health assessment, they can be signposted to a relevant trained professional.
